I CHOOSE LIFE
Dedicated to Kai Schachter Rich
ABOUT
Kai Schachter was a London-based artist who was passionate about life and a dedicated and loving friend. Kai took his life on March 12th 2019 to the shock of his loved ones. No one will ever be able to understand why, but we can take steps as a collective to make it easier for the next person to say "I Choose Life".
What is it?
The "I Choose Life" movement is a tribute to Kai Schachter, to find some light in the darkness of this loss. Suicide is the second leading cause of death globally for 15-29 year olds. After Kai took his life, it was commonly shared amongst his friends that "this could have been any of us". Depression is prevalent amongst today's young population and the chances are high that you or someone you know has at least thought about suicide.
This is everybody's problem.
Please join us in this movement to raise awareness about the permanent costs of ignorance in the realm of mental health. There is always more to learn and more to do. The "I Choose Life" movement is just one small step, but if everyone joins in, we can turn that step into a leap. So, we invite you to leap with us.
We will be hosting a charity drive in Kai's name at Brown University on the Main Green on Saturday, May 4th. See below for more details.
CHARITY DRIVE + BAZAAR
What?
An outdoor bazaar selling: munchables; second-hand clothing, books, miscellaneous items; RiSD art and designs and more. All proceeds will be split between the mental health organizations, Movember and CALM, both of which focus on prevention of men's suicide. The donation will be made in Kai Schachter's name.
All excess clothing/items will be donated to Savers who will give money for the clothing to the organization Big Brothers and Big Sisters, a non-profit youth mentoring organization, whose goal is to help children reach their potential through one-one relationships with volunteer mentors.
Where?
Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, USA
The bazaar will be held outdoors on the main green and is open to anybody and everybody.
When?
The event will be held from 12pm-5pm on Saturday May 4th 2019, a week before Kai Schachter's birthday, as a tribute to him and in celebration of his life.
What can you do?
Donate clothes, books or other appropriate items to the cause to be sold at the bazaar. You may also make a direct monetary donation either by venmo or payment with a credit/debit card through this website (see "Donate" section). If you are an artist you can also donate some of your art to be sold or volunteer your time to make t-shirts with attendees. And of course, show up and shop!
(Every purchase will be rewarded with a signature "I Choose Life" wristband)
